Hi everyone,

long time lurker first time poster here. I was accepted to saba for the upcoming September 2016 class and was wondering if any past/current grads would be willing to share their experiences or let me pick their brain a bit.

Anyone else accepted/applied relatively early on in the cycle?

Hey Everyone,

I have received my acceptance letter today and happy to say I will be attending SABA in Sept 2016. Just wanted to reach out to potential classmates of Sept 2016 and network! :)

Saba vs AUC (getting through the program)

Hey Guys,

I have been accepted by both schools. AUC wants to to take 1 physics class before I come. Im a Canadian student but i don't care about getting back to Canada. Id prefer to move to the states and do my residency there and live there.

So at this point I need to decide if AUC is worth taking another summer class for. Island conditions don't really matter to me either. i just want to attend the school Id be more likely to succeed (pass/graduate) in and be less stressed with course work. Both seem to have similar residency acquisition rates when it comes to the state.

Please Advice!
Thanks Again

Any Chance For A UK Citizen?

So, basically I have been thinking to apply for med school at SABA (SUSOM) or another Caribbean school and want to know whether this is a wise choice?

I am a UK student and would like to know whether it's possible for UK IMG to obtain a residency in the US? Would I have the same chance as US IMGs or is it purely based on grades (Step scores).

I have had my degree translated by WES and have a GPA of 3.75 in Biomedical Science. I have also 5+ months of clinical experience.

I apologise in advance if this has been answered elsewhere and would be grateful if you could point me in the direction of the other posts.

Advice from those who have been in such situations them would be much appreciated, or if you know any success stories I would love to hear them.

Thanks.

(Positive or constructive responses only please)

Hello all,

I was wondering if I could get some input on whether SABA is a great school for me or not.

I graduated in 2015 with a bachelor in biology, 3.77 c, 3.69 s GPA. I took the MCAT two times, first was 25 and second was 34 of the old test. I have one shadowing experience in IM, one year of ER scribing, half year of research, and 4 years of various teaching experiences.

I am interested in going to medical school in an area with a great outdoors environment, and that is why I am looking at Caribbean. Is Saba a good fit for me if I want to enjoy nature? Do you think my chances for acceptance are good?

Thanks you!

I attended a seminar of SABA and what caught my attention is their curriculum that is based on systems. Appreciate if someone can elaborate more on the pedagogy, benefits, challenges and the competitive edge. Thank you in advance.

Hi, recently I have been accepted to SABA for May 2017 term.

I am trying to decide between Ross's MERP and SABA May class. I have about 11 days to decide one over the other.

So far, I have spend sometime on this forum reading different people's experiences about SABA. In my opinion, it seems to me that SABA is very challenging in terms of its teaching philosophy, how education is organized and the resources that are available to students.

I have read that SABA recently updated their curriculum. For those who started last year and this year, can you share with me your experience in SABA and the new curriculum? How big is your class size and how many students are left? How are your classes? Are the TA, Professors, staffs helpful? How far do you think they are helping you to succeed in your class and in SABA?

Can you share with me your Monday to Sunday schedule?

I went to the SABA info session last month, but it wasn't really helpful to me personally. They invited just one former student for Q&A. This person was a 2005 graduate. He spoke about his experience, but I would think it's grossly outdated. Furthermore, this person mentioned that only 8 people dropped out from his original class. He finished with 80+ students. However, after reading about the attrition rate here, I found it hard to believe 80+ students graduated with him.

Please share with me your current experience in SABA. Much appreciated.

I am leaning towards Ross's MERP, because I think that program can better prepare me for medical school if I pass. It's a 15 week program but it will cost me about 20-22k to live and attend MERP. I can't post a link for MERP's classes but you can search Ross MERP to check it out.

Your personal experience in SABA will be valuable to me. Thank you.

Landlords that allow pets

Hi--I'm wondering if any current students or students who have recently left the island can help me out. Do you know which landlords accept pets, or have accepted pets in the past?

I know that many don't. I was told that Tricia is one of the only landlords that does.

Thanks for any info!

I just got accepted to SABA's upcoming May class and i am kind of scared after reading more about the attrition rate. I would like to prepare myself so i don't fail my first semester. Iam interested in reading into the first semester books before i start the semester.

I would be more than grateful if you could answer these following questions:

- What books were used for what course.....? Please list the author and the name.
- Which course requires the most study, attention, and that students tend to do worst in?
- What was the approximate dropout rate from the semester you were in?
- any other useful info??

Any help is appreciated and best of luck through the rest of your studies! :)

Im surprised that this questions wasnt asked before......

So i just found out that i have to pay $2950 to the landlord upon or before arrival directly to the landlord.
How the hell am i going to pay for that???

As a FAFSA recipient, is it possible to pay for it from my financial aid? or take extra loans?
And do we have to come up with that amount before every semester??

Any answer is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Why Saba Fails to care about their students!

I want to first say I never complain and always try to look at the bright side of things, but this post needs to be done. I am a current student at Saba med.. The school has its up and downs , but honestly the president of the school, Dr. Chu is not in touch with his students nor those the administration care AT ALL FOR THEIR STUDENTS NOR THEIR SAFETY. I am hoping that the administration sees this especially Dr. Chu. I am happy that this school allowed me to attend and I have made it very far in the program, so no I WAS NOT A DROP OUT AND NO I AM NOT BITTER BECAUSE THE PROGRAM IS HARD. I am mad because the school has around 200 American students that relies on their financial aid to pay rent, buy food, pay bills. It has been a month and some time now and none of the students are able to get their refund money and the school REFUSES to answer the question on why they haven't sent our money. We have talked to all the deans and they were told to stay out of financial aid and when Dr. Chu ( who supposedly cares about his students ) was asked why the student cant get their money before near the end of the semester, he simply answer that he knows NOTHING ABOUT THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT ( I thought it was the president job to know about major functions of the school ). Students are left not able to pay bills, buy food, pay rent and the school could care less. I am calling out SABA on their false statements of how they are there for their students. If you cant pay out of pocket for the expensive living cost to be on this island DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL. The hardship to do good in your classes and to worry about where your next meal comes from is not worth it. I have heard other school are there to support their students care for their students success Saba is not the school. President Chu you have failed to provide the simple things student needs , and that is self assurance that the school has the students well being in mind! If there is some one out there that has a little more insight on the legal matter on how schools handle financial aid please respond to my post. Things need to change at this school ! do your research before you come here !
p.s. please excuse my lack of proper grammar, I wrote this in a rush!

For students who have attended Saba, I am curious about life on campus. Is it nice to live there/safe for women being there alone?
