Hello,

accepted students would you be so kind enough to please share your stats. Especially stats below 30 mcat and 3.5 GPA of course.
This will give me an idea of how well I should be scoring on my mcat in relation to my GPA.

thanks!

Rotation sites

Hi,

I am an IMG (non-caribbean) and now looking for externships in San Antonio area, Texas.

I am looking for outpatient clinics/doctors (internal medicine and family medicine) where Caribbean students rotate so I can contact the office and inquire about externship opportunities.
The more hands-on experience I get the better it is, so busier establishments are my priority, though less busier may also work as LORs count either way.

I am not from Texas and will be coming there just for this purpose. For various reasons, I can only be at San Antonio area.
Will appreciate if anyone can share any contacts (or pm me, whatever you prefer).

Thanks,

Hi, everyone, I am planning to go to Saba . I love to play badminton. It will be a pity if I cannot bring my racket with me and play there.
So does anyone know if Saba has a badminton court?

Question about requirements

I am little confused about the undergrad requirements.

"expected to have a minimum of three years of under-graduate studies or the equivalent of 90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours, including premedical requirements"

If you have a undergraduate degree (I am getting a double major in Anthropology/Sociology) do you need to do the premedical requirements too, or is that just requirements for the 90 semester hours equivalency.

Thanks so much for your help!
Kait

Also, sorry if this information is already on this forum! I couldn't locate it!

First Semester So Far

Just a quick description of how it has been going on the island.

  • Weather is amazing if you like hot summers and tons of rain.
  • Hillside dorms are nice but they nickel and dime you.
  • The classes are not impossibly hard, but expect to study minimum of 3 hours each day.
  • The stores are reasonably stocked, but most items are quite expensive.
  • Barely any study space on campus, library is always full.
  • Students are pretty laid back for the most part.
  • Time drags on for the first couple of weeks and starts to pick up once you're past block 1 (I hope).
  • Don't buy any textbooks unless you really want to study from a physical book. Everything is on the servers.
  • Professors are decent, administration is less so.
  • Histology is the silent killer.
  • Seeing people retaking classes is the most depressing and frightening thing imaginable. Might just be because if any of our class fails ANY semester, we will have to wait until the following year's match.
  • Lastly, it's very doable. If you put in the work you will succeed. Don't let people on here and SDN, etc, get you down. But be prepared. The amount of material we learn for each block feels like a semesters worth of material. AND THERE'S 5 BLOCKS.

Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, I'll try to answer as best I can.

Has anyone notice they developed a change in visual/vestibular responses since being on the island of Saba? If so, is there anything you have done to help alleviate the problem?
Thanks

As I receive my first hospitalist Internal Medicine job offer, I just want to stop and say thanks to Saba University and the ValueMd forums. While Saba gave me the tools, it was through hardwork, help of fellow classmates, and yes, this forum that culminated to this day.

This forum helped me pass all three USMLE exams on the first try, and the match advice from fellow posters helped me secure my number 1 match spot. And yes, now I have my first job out of residency! Next year it will be tackling the board exams and I know I will be searching these forums for advice!

Don't get discouraged. You can do this. The journey is definitely worth it!

Just wondering? Did all the clubs die or are there secret websites that are not public? Nothing is really current past 2012... except SUSOM and and sabamed.org.

My cousin who is at Saba informed me that a number of students were able to get a hold of exams and answers. When addressed to Dean/professors, the issue was taken lightly and disregarded as if its not a big deal.

I really need to understand how is this possible or is it even true??

Caribbean medical education for an Indian student

Hello friends, I am pursuing medical education in Caribbeans for my son. He is in 12th standard in CBSE (india) syllabus. Our intention is to study and do residency in US and then practice in US if possible.
Since getting into US univerisites is difficult, I would like to opt for better Carribbean colleges, by considering 6 years Pre-Med + MD program.
I would like to get your opinion and advice on the following points.
1. Is it difficult for an Indian student to do 6 yrs program?
2. What is the success rate of an Indian student in completing 6 yrs MD and through USMLE Step 1 & Step 2.
3. Which Caribbean colleges are recognised by Medical Council of India?
4. Any hidden risks in doing 6 yrs MD in Caribbean colleges?
