Last week I was looking at some episodes of Grey's Anatomy TV series season1; first aired in 2005 . Alex a surgery intern seven weeks into his 1st year residency is told by the Chief of Surgery that the results of the USMLE Clinical Skills exam ( which Alex has taken much later than most people) has been just reported and that Alex has failed . However the hospital will allow Alex a grace period of 4 months to sit and pass exam.
My questions are -
Could this incident hold true for doctors/ interns from US medical schools in 2005 ?
If so does this still hold true in 2012? or is it mandatory for all 1st year residency applicants o qualify USMLE Step 1 & 2 CK and CS by the time they begin residency in July ?
I request seattle, rokshana, Ross Super Moderator or someone of similar knowledge to answer this post.
Thank you
